UConn Health commissioned JSA to do a full interior renovation at the fourth floor of the John Dempsey Hospital (c.1975) transforming 12,840 sq. ft. of existing space into the new state-of-the-art NESCI/CBDC.

During the project design phase, a great deal of attention was given to providing clear sightlines between clinicians and patients as well as to offering privacy and comfort to patients who often spend extensive amounts of time receiving therapeutic treatments.

In the clinic area, curved walls and large curvilinear floor patterns create a visually dynamic appearance. A playful seating element becomes the focal point at the infusion waiting area. Vivid color accents are used strategically on the walls throughout the project creating a welcoming environment for patients and their families.

The new program includes a dedicated clinical space, eight private infusion rooms, two private aphaeresis rooms, eight examination rooms, a large infusion waiting area for patients and their families, along with medical, research and consultation offices, a staff break room and a conference room.
