The Tidal Lodge, a unique 34-room boutique hotel, will be Branford River Planned Development District’s newest addition. Located on Indian Neck Avenue, it will face the Branford River and be located across the street from the Stony Creek Brewery, which was also designed by JSA and is one of the top ten tourist attractions in the state. As part of the development, the area around the project site will be engaged in a dramatic transformation, including the addition of retail, restaurants, and a public boardwalk.
The Tidal Lodge hotel floor plates run east west and curve parallel to the coastline, capitalizing on views to the river. JSA’s design proposal features a single loaded corridor, which strategically locates the circulation spaces along the north elevation. This allows for the south elevation to offer all waterfront rooms on three floors with spectacular views of the Branford River. Each of the generously proportioned rooms will be further enhanced with private balconies for the enjoyment of sunning and nature watching by hotel guests.
Other hotel amenities include a 1650 square foot rooftop deck, lobby with bar, dining room for hotel guests and kitchen for the preparation of breakfast and lunch, conference room, gym, and guest parking in a dedicated garage beneath the structure. The hotel has a contemporary aesthetic with a series of large windows, glass guardrails, and a distinct horizontal shade canopy on the third floor terrace. The exterior will be clad in fieldstone and stained cedar shingles, in keeping with the materials that were traditionally used in historic New England seaside resorts.
