The Stony Creek Brewery is a modern 30,000 square foot, two-story facility designed for the manufacturing and serving of local craft beer. With a budget of $15 million, the brewery required four years of planning and ten months of construction to complete. It is the second largest brewing facility and tap room in the state of Connecticut. One year after its completion, the brewery received the AIA Connecticut People’s Choice Award in the “great place to play” category.

Located within the walls of the brewery is a fermentation cellar; a brewhouse; and a bottling, canning, and cold storage facility. The 2,500 square foot tasting room’s wall-length windows provide an in-depth view of the bottling operation. A 3,800 square foot second floor banquet room and outdoor deck, overlooking the adjacent Branford River, was designed to accommodate private parties and gatherings.

The entrance to the brewery is punctuated by a cedar pavilion with standing seam metal roof. Upon entering, the industrial aesthetic of the interior allows visitors to be immersed in the beer manufacturing process. The spacious public space includes exposed vaulted ceilings with steel trusses above, cable system balustrades, industrial lighting, and openings into production areas where stainless steel equipment is visible. The tasting area features a bar with corrugated metal and rustic driftwood cladding, and the nearby lounge includes a fireplace with a Stony Creek granite hearth. The outdoor area at the ground level has a full-length cedar deck, which steps down to the beach and is articulated with stainless steel cable balustrades and timber pillars. The upper deck, which includes expansive cedar trellises, is accessed by the second-floor banquet space by a series of double glass doors.

Since it opened in 2015, the Stony Creek Brewery has become one of the top ten tourist attractions in the state, with over 350,000 visitors per year. In 2018, JSA was commissioned to extend the Stony Creek brand by creating a new 7,100 square foot two-story small-batch brewery and pub with seating for 300 located in the heart of Foxwoods Resort Casino.
