Rowayton House

The expansion and remodeling of a home in Rowayton in which the original house was retained encompasses a new enlarged kitchen which forms the center of the plan with a focus on an exterior bluestone terrace. Working with an existing private backyard, the design captures the sunlight with an abundance of glass washing the new kitchen with natural light. An open floor plan of kitchen, seating area and long work counter creates a multi-functional room where one can prepare dinner while watching the children play outside or work on their studies. The scale of the original design is maintained with a new cladding of stained cedar clapboard and copper vaulted dormer.

Interior finishes include stone countertops and oak flooring which tie in the original home with the expansion areas. A walk through butler’s pantry maintains the existing exterior stone of the original house while serving the expanded dining room area.
